XAP Access Point Hardware Version 1

Firmware Upgrade Release Notes

Features, Settings and Issues Resolved

Firmware Version 2.0

Issues Resolved:

  1. Known Atheros chipset issue that caused intermittent data throughput and client connectivity problems.
  2. Known bug that caused the WEP key to disappear after entering and saving a WEP key.
  3. Known bug that caused the AP to stop broadcasting wireless signal when using WPA TKIP security mode.
  4. Known issue with support for legacy devices running Windows XP.

Enhancements:

  1. Operating Mode options. The XAP family now supports the following modes:
    • Access Point: Standard wireless AP mode that allows connection of client devices.
    • Client: Allows the XAP to connect to an existing wireless network as a client device. In this mode, the XAP will not pass downstream device MAC addresses.
NOTE: this mode is only available using SSID 1
    • Bridge Root: Sets the XAP to Bridge mode, allowing other XAPs to connect and form a wireless bridge. In this mode, the XAP will pass downstream device MAC addresses.
    • Bridge Client: Sets the XAP to connect to another XAP that is set as the Bridge Root. In this mode, the XAP will pass downstream device MAC addresses.
NOTE: this mode is only available using SSID 1
  2. Support for 64 and 128-bit WEP has been added.
  3. Enhanced and simpler interface for selecting optimal wireless settings.
    • Wireless Mode: Includes 802.11g (radio will run in 802.11g only mode) and 802.11gn (radio will run in 802.11g or 802.11n mode, depending on client device support). Default setting to 802.11gn.
    • Channel Width: By default, the channel width is set to 20MHz for optimal support of the widest range of devices.
    • Channel: Set to 6 by default with 1-11 available. Also adds the option of choosing the upper or lower channel when using 20/40MHz Channel Width.
  4. Administrator Password setting and login has been moved to the Administration section.
  5. The Connections page has been updated to display statistics for all SSID’s, while simplifying and improving the way the data is being displayed (i.e. Signal Strength, Data Transmitted and Data Received).
